Hello my friends. How are you doing? How are you weathering the storm? We’ve arrived at the home stretch of 2024 and everyone’s going through something. It has been a year of so much transition for so many people. Even for those where nothing changed materially, there have been major shifts internally. November begins a long season of retrogrades that will carry us into the spring of 2025. Life as we know it will be very different when we come out on the other side. The next few months are when we write the proposal for what that life will be in this uncertain, yet promising future. Some of you might think I’m a delusional Pisces optimist, but I really do have hope.
The elephant in the room is of course that tomorrow, November 5, is Election Day in the United States. A lot is at stake with this election. I have my personal thoughts, feelings and predictions about how it will go down. And yes, based on all of the astrological indicators, I do think Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States, and I hope she is! But, like my colleague SJ Anderson, I’m starting to think that predicting election outcomes isn’t the best use of astrology. Yes, astrology always accurately describes the quality of a particular time, but it doesn’t determine results. This election arrives at the last gasps of Pluto in Capricorn and the Pluto Return of the United States. It’s been obvious since (at least) 2016 that the “simpler times” some crave will never return / never existed to begin with. The outcome of this election will determine the strategy for revolution. Pluto in Aquarius will bring the decomposition of outdated ideologies. Yes, the Revolutionary War began while Pluto was in Capricorn, but the Constitution was written while Pluto was in Aquarius. There’s a lot of revision to do.
Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19, and that’s when our story really begins.
What I’m watching: Martha on Netflix. Martha Stewart is a Scorpio rising, and I think her life story has a lot of points re: the concept of rebirth (and also how wealth can facilitate rebirth).
What I’m reading: This 2006 Vanity Fair article about Pluto in Capricorn before the transit began- I’ve read this before, and then Annabel Gat rec’ed it in her forecast this week, and got it back on my radar. Time travel back to the late W Bush Administration is a very profound reflection point…
What I’m listening to: We’re calling November’s Playlist the intersection between apocalypse pop, Americana decay, and spooky vibes. (It’s Scorpio season for most of the month after all). Scorpio artists on this playlist include: Frank Ocean, Meredith Monk and Bjork.

Tarot spread/journaling prompt:
What, from the past, is distracting me?
What, from the future, is teasing me?
How do I ground down in the present?
New Moon in Scorpio
November begins with a —no sugarcoating it— harrowing New Moon in Scorpio on November 1. Scorpio is of course a sign of deep emotional protection and fixity. There’s an inherent mystery and intensity here. But the drama of this moon isn’t about Scorpio alone. Scorpio is ruled by Mars, and as this lunation goes exact, Mars in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn for the final time in any of our lifetimes. This is an aspect of deep regeneration, and is what makes this New Moon feel like a forced factory reset on life. But with good guy planets Venus and Jupiter forming an opposition at the same time, there’s a spark of hope and futurity here, even if things are messy and imperfect.
Next year all of the outer planets will enter new signs. Pluto moves into Aquarius, Neptune moves into Aries, Uranus moves into Gemini. This is a sea change, a completely new era. A new world that we’ve never experienced before. The New Moon in Scorpio is what those in manifestation circles call a test, a final revisitation of a past experience that must be passed through to get what you desire. For some, a test is an email from a past lover, or an invitation from a toxic job. For others a test is a reckoning with an unhelpful pattern of behavior or limiting belief. The tests we experience at this New Moon in Scorpio are a final reminder of what has never worked. This is the final battle. What comes after is rebirth in all its beautiful and disgusting glory.
