this is the balsamic moon bulletin: a wrap up of the previous lunar cycle and a preview of the lunar cycle ahead. I’m biased (was born during this phase) but the balsamic moon is my favorite part of the month. Just before the new moon, it’s a time for reflection, distillation and integration. It’s a few days—3.5 days before the new moon to be exact—where the best thing to do is creatively float and imagine while you also wash the floors, tidy the desk, do some laundry, and close out projects. But also: when all else fails, take a nap.
I have long had a practice of what I call “working naps” which is when, in the midst of working on a big project, I look over my notes and then close my eyes for 15-30 minutes with the hope that what I’m struggling to alchemize will work itself out in the unconscious realm. The balsamic moon is for this kind of rest. (I took one while writing this.)
Review of the Last Lunar Cycle
The New Moon in Leo on August 16th was pretty unforgettable, right? From my own experience and those of clients and friends, there was a very clear before and after. Upsets and inspirations in the air. Where did you break away?
Less than a week later on the 22nd, there was another culmination. This one less inspired and more a moment of burnout, disillusionment or defeat. Whether this day was subtle or harrowing, you’re probably still thinking: “what was that?!” But also, as rough or confusing as it might have been: worst case scenarios were avoided, right?
Virgo season began the very next day (the 23rd) and with it came Mercury retrograde. The perfect excuse to slow down and re-evaluate. Contrary to popular belief, Virgo time is less about control and more about making adjustments. The challenging part of this process was made very clear on the 27th, but Mars entering justice-oriented Libra that same day hammered home the message that these problems won’t be solved in a vacuum. What conversations did you start? What second opinions did you seek?
The Full Moon in Pisces on the 30th was an emotional one. Tears were shed as confidence was gained. It was clear around this time which road must be taken and what must be left behind. Struggles were highlighted in a very vulnerable way. What remained true despite the growing pains?
