We got some good news here in New York City on Tuesday evening. Just hours before this week’s very auspicious New Moon in Cancer, Andrew Cuomo gave an exhausted concession speech. Across town, Zohran Mamdani, to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, declared victory in the Democratic Mayoral Primary. Finances bros are shaking in their boots with phrases like “hot commie summer” being tossed around. As the Mamdani campaign wrote in an email on Wednesday morning, “THE MOVEMENT BEAT THE MACHINE.” It’s hard to be anything but cynical in 2025, but this result was a little slice of hope.
(Also, if you want to get more into the astrology of the Mayoral Primary, I talked about it at the end of this episode of GOOD FORTUNE.)
June 24, Primary Day, was the day of the Jupiter cazimi. If you’re not familiar, the word cazimi comes from an Arabic phrase meaning “in the heart of the sun.” When a planet is cazimi, it’s right next to the sun on the zodiac wheel. Think of it as the planet going to a sauna. Detoxing. Sweating it all out. Getting purified. My first astrology teacher Adam Elenbaas likens a cazimi to the planet dying. It’s also a rebirth—beginnings come with endings. Concessions come with victories. And yes, celebration comes with knowing there’s a long road ahead.
Jupiter is the planet of faith, attention, relief, and healing. When Jupiter goes into the heart of the sun, hope is renewed.
Jupiter cazimis happen once a year so this is not a super rare aspect. What is significant about this year’s though is that Jupiter is now in Cancer. Jupiter is said to be exalted in Cancer, or a VIP. Jupiter in Cancer is a feast after famine. An exalted planet also doesn’t get as burnt up in the sun’s rays. It has a stretch limo with a driver to carry it through the fray. Jupiter controls the temperature in this sauna. This cazimi arrives at the same time as the summer solstice and the new moon. Renewal is happening on many levels. New moons are of course a great time to start something. And this something has gravitas. With this new moon, we’re not starting in a rush, or out of struggle or fear, but from a true desire for ease. This new beginning is a true act of faith. Time to trust the universe maybe. The world might be falling apart, but that doesn’t mean we can’t build something beautiful together.

Over here in my corner of the world, this New Moon is forcing me to get back to basics. The New Moon falls in my 10th house of public image and career, but Jupiter is the ruler of the parts of my chart that deal with schedule, routine and managing dis-ease. The parts that are not so sexy, but actually inform everything. Earlier this year, I thought this New Moon would align with me finally “getting it together,” whatever that means. Relaunching. Rebranding. Becoming Important.
I talked about June as a month to attach a goal to in my year ahead download 2025: A Strange Year. I also identified two earlier dates, February 1 and April 2, as times when we might get visions for what was coming in June. And I did get some very clear downloads about projects on those dates. Funny enough though, around those times, I was also having breakthroughs about my mental health. As the year went on and June snuck up on me, it became clear that I was meant to use this summer’s auspicious astrology for some necessary healing, recognizing that Jupiter is for good luck, but also protection and relief. This means instead of putting it all out there, I’m using this new moon to plan, set deadlines, and set myself up for (hopefully) future success.
Though I’m not launching the BIG ONE with this new moon, I do have some news to share:
This summer, you can look forward to me in your inbox every Monday :)
There will be the usual updates on New and Full moons, some astro-culture essays I’m very excited about, and a new series on moon sign self care. We’ll begin this coming Monday with a rundown of Summer 2025’s absolutely wild and revolutionary astrology for paid subscribers.
If you are a paid subscriber, look out soon for a survey about what you like, don’t like, and want to see more of. And if you’re not a paid subscriber, consider becoming one for, honestly, less than the cost of one fancy coffee per month. This newsletter is made possible through the generosity of paid subscribers and I really want it to grow and thrive.

What’s exhausting you during this new moon? What’s bringing relief? I think getting through this summer is about acknowledging that these things are going to come hand in hand. Recognize what hurts along with what brings you joy.

Two announcements/reminders:
My books are open for the first two weeks of July. Evening and weekend availability! I’m excited to see some summer birthdays for their Solar Return, Saturn in Aries babies to talk about their Saturn Return, and everyone else who needs a guidepost for this moment.
Also, I have been off Instagram for the last month and have no intention of going back on anytime soon. If you’ve tried to reach me there, send me an email instead. Share the good news (and this moon letter) with your friends and lovers <3

Ahh! So excited about the upcoming Monday posts. It will be lovely to hear from you more. But also, I'm so pleased that you've decided to use these auspicious astrological times to continue focusing on your healing. That should always be the number one priority, and will end up serving your career and public image in the long run anyway. I'm looking forward for everything the next chapter of Moon Missives holds (including what is still to be announced), and hoping this chapter comes with a generous helping of ease and joy for you.
oh and those dates are helping me remember - there is a dream of this endeavor taking on new forms, i truly can’t do it alone, and i don’t need to abandon that dream just because the first person i brought on didn’t work out (mostly because they couldn’t honestly assess their capacity and show up for what they signed up for) … ty planet speaker :)
