As someone born with Venus conjunct the North Node is want to do, January is when I reset the crush cycle. Forget New Year’s Resolutions—for me, the priority is always, who am I going to be crushing on this year? Who will possess all my stray thoughts? Strangely, I realized yesterday that for the fourth year in a row, I’ve gone back to the same January crush! This crush always fades by February, but in January, there’s not yet any proof that this crush isn’t the one. Looking at the astrology of 2024, I think this might finally be the year that I let this crush go for good. I think it’s a year a lot of us will be letting go of something for good. The last few years have felt more like a “preview” for the future, but 2024 is when we undeniably step into it. The crushes will be innovative from here on out. January sets the scene.

It makes a lot of sense that 2023 ended and 2024 began with many of us—normies and influencers alike—making in and out lists for 2024 to share on Instagram. Through these lists, we’re sharing not only what we want in the year to come, but also what we’re no questions asked leaving behind.

As much as time is a construct and the Gregorian calendar is an inelegant delineation of that construct, it does make some sense that January is when we agree to hit the system reset button. January is always the season of Saturn. Both Capricorn and Aquarius, the signs that make up this month, are ruled by Saturn, the planet of saying “No🖤.”

As we turn into a new year, it’s cold and dark in the Northern Hemisphere, but everyday there’s a little more light. Every day, we face the dawn with verve, like goats scaling a dam in search of salt. I’m probably too much of a winter apologist, but I find this time of year to be very optimistic. Things get a little bit brighter and a little bit better everyday.
