horoscopes for the new moon in scorpio
hallo my bbz,
tonight (the 14th turning to the 15th, just after midnight, 12:06 am EST) there is a new moon in Scorpio. The moon’s refreshing herself and so can you. Seriously. Click refresh and wait it out.
The year of our disaster 2020 has been a trip. Even the lunations ––for the most part–– have not been nice, making harsh aspects to taskmaster Saturn, dancing with destabilizing Uranus or getting a stare down from grim reaper Pluto. The new moons have come with caveats. The full moons have come with exhaustion. How can we imagine the future when the present is unimaginable? (Is it a lack of imagination or is it all a simulation?) This new moon is different. It’s actually future-oriented. But we must start from the bottom if we ever want to rise.
The moon is said to be in its fall in Scorpio (that’s the opposite of its exaltation, Taurus, where Luna is an honored guest). Planets in their fall, to put it quite simply, are not set up for success. They have to fight to get the resources they need and in the moon’s case that’s nourishment and connection. Planets in their fall might starve and they might overcompensate. But just because things don’t come easily to them doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. Honestly, in the present day, I find that planets in their detriment and fall are just planets with qualities that aren’t expected to thrive in the “traditional” “society” (aka the tired & frankly boring heteropatriarchal system that is spoon fed as the norm*). But when planets in their fall get into their groove, they are radical, innovative and bring something worth engaging with to the table. This new moon in Scorpio isn’t ideal but that doesn’t mean it can’t develop into something wonderful.
*(We have to remember that though astrology is an ancient divinatory art that was practiced all over the world since the earliest human civilizations, most of the “official texts” which have become the basis of our modern archetypes were written by elitist wealthy white men who lacked any sense of humor or nuance. Take it all with a grain of salt. Interpretive arts are just that … interpretation.)
The new moon is ruled by Mars in Aries. Mars, which after months of slogging backward in retrograde motion, has finally started moving forward again. This newly direct Mars (in his own sign) is many things: a call to action, a vitamin b12 shot, a jolt of courage, a sharp nudge. Mars is moving ahead but very slowly. The change will not be immediate. As Mars slowly picks up speed over the next few weeks, we will gain energy and momentum (this goes especially for Aries and Scorpios who are ruled by Mars and for the last few months were ruled by a hot and bothered ram sent back to pick up the breadcrumbs on what is usually a one way path). After what we’ve been through, why would we rush into the next thing? Our intentions are powerful but it’s a slow burn. The beeswax candle doesn’t drip, it holds a steady light.
Speaking of planets in their fall, this new moon makes an almost-to-the-minute exact sextile (holding hands aspect) to Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter in Capricorn is another planet in its fall. Jupiter wants unfettered growth but Capricorn expresses that growth though laying the foundation. Brick by brick. Those bricks WILL become a castle, a kingdom, a utopia but they need to be STURDY IN THE GROUND before they can dream of holding a structure, a mindset or an idea. This is not the Jupiter in Sagittarius square Neptune vibe of 2019 ––doing psychedelics and running through a wildfire. it’s a sobering Jupiter. Growth isn’t easy. Opportunity is fleeting. The process is worth more than the thrill.
This new moon ––wherever it falls in our chart –– is about setting intentions that are fortified and meant to last. Who cares if they're boring if they're what fulfills us?
It’s taking the job that’s right for us right now.
It’s budgeting for furniture that we'll have until we're 80.
It’s taking care of ourselves so we can slowly but surely show up more for our neighbors, our friends and our community.
Let’s sit down with a warm drink and think, meditate, dream upon a seemingly mundane but actually brilliant goal. Everything starts somewhere and the future starts today.
Love you bbz xoxo,
Jaime
post script: Katy Perry was born on the morning October 25, 1984 at a new moon in Scorpio. This new moon, like today's lunation, was sextile Jupiter in Capricorn. It was ruled by Mars (in its exaltation) in Capricorn. Her birth chart shares an astrological signature with today's lunation: making the best of what's available. Not shying from transformation. And even if she flops, her foundation is too strong to ever completely crumble (cue: "Never Really Over.").

Aries
who has power over you and why do they have that power? this new moon is about leveraging your leadership skills to make a deal. sure, you're not the most famous person in the entire world. but you have something that people want. they SEE that. consider how you want to share that power and strategize how you can get out of the grips of what's no longer serving you. collaborations that leave you empty handed have to go. ask your freelance clients for a higher rate, ask your boyfriend to buy you flowers and a bath bomb, put that cash in your drawer into a savings account where it belongs. take the wheel. you don't need to do those mental gymnastics to figure out your worth. play your hand.
Taurus
it's a completely new era for you and your lover. together, you're overseas. you're in the monastery, the university, beyond the shrine. the plane is at the terminal. landed. luggage grabbed. but this isn't a romantic fling. it's the rest of your life. and it's terrifying to live something magical everyday. because magic is what we do. the mundane. how can your commitments transform your education? how can your partner be a practical escape? take a trip to the abandoned spy tower / graffiti art mecca oasis and look out at the countryside. that exploration is yours. there's so much ground to cover. open the book and sign into the map. own it.
Gemini
this new moon finds you sitting in the sludge of your karmic debts. why is everyone else having fun without you? (honey, i PROMISE, absolutely no one is "having" "fun" ok? they are just avoiding the chores.) whose self care game do you admire? it's time to invest in the stock that cleans out your pores. once and for all. seek advice. this isn't a call into the social media void but an earnest attempt to seek out the good stuff. the hints that matter. expert opinions. curated nuggets of wisdom. ask and listen. listen long and listen hard. let it simmer. ruminate. again. send the follow up email only when the ginger broth is cool.
Cancer
creativity matters. art matters. desire matters. sex matters. but creating something (in this ECONOMY) cannot be done flippantly. the masterpiece comes from a commitment. that doesn't mean going underground. that doesn't mean tunnel vision. and it especially doesn't necessarily mean monogamy. it just means taking your inspiration seriously! it's not all gonna happen at once, ok? but the steps you're taking now? they matter. put one thing into the world. a tiny thing. treat it like gold, a precious emerald stone cooled in your grandmother's hand. a fine but light bodied red wine. it means something because you made it and because you choose to hold it close.
Leo
they say you can never really go home and yet ... here you are? reckoning with the structure around you is no easy task. but the process is becoming fun? did you say that? there's work to be done still to make it perfect or at the very least: ideal. maybe, for you, home is not a place on the map or a hole to climb into at the end of the night. Instead, home is an action. it's a choice you make everyday to lift yourself up. are the frozen dumplings in the refrigerator? is the campari on the liquor cart? is your freezer filled with your special perfectly square and satisfying ice cubes? or are you still using that cheap tray from the Dollar Tree? Every detail matters. Even the details that no one's applauding. sometimes the audience is you.
Virgo
this new moon is about your schedule. it's about getting creative with the challenges you put on the docket. you choose what feeds you. if you want to cultivate a skill, you first have to admit that there's something to learn. even if you intellectually understand how to get the highest quality result. that doesn't mean you've done every step to get there yourself. it's time to get your hands dirty. it's time "to go there." stop resisting putting marks on the map or writing in the margins or leaving footprints in the sand. show your work and let yourself feel the embarrassment of being wrong. failure is a thrill.
Libra
your value is not negotiable anymore nor is the money you need to make ends meet. you know that settling down comes with a hefty bill and you're collecting the receipts. tbh, you're ready to swipe your credit card for all the things you need. this is no longer about being frugal or saving, it's about leveling up and stretching your means to their limit. only then can you realize that you can stretch them. resources are quite the muscle. if being cautious is making you miserable then stop being so cautious. home has been your greatest challenge for years but remember that struggle is a key part of mastery. figure out what you need and the resources will appear. just be specific!
Scorpio
now's the moment. a fresh start for you, bb. like truly. a refresh for your face, your bod, your mind. on the one hand: community, old friends and the DMs that bind have been a problem for years. either they're not there or everyone is being annoying or quite frankly: both. on the other hand, letting go is a complicated game of telephone. but something has been planted that will surprise you with its abundance come spring.it's a sweet ritual to write down what you can do to help yourself & then identifying what tools you have on hand to take that first step. call action, you don't need to buy supplies. you're close to burn out but the pink horizon is beautiful. if you're thirsty, remember that you have a glass. fill it.
Sagittarius
i feel like a broken record (and maybe I haven't said this?) but for the love of the goddess, lay low, bb! just lay low. enjoy the rest while you have it. this year has been rough on your buoyant, optimistic soul. you run on joy and hope has come wearing cufflinks and a grey silk tie. buzzkill. let this new moon remind you of the profound power of rest. the delight of stillness. the quiet isn't going to last forever. turn on do not disturb and build a cocoon with the select few for the "winter" (or the weekend). the nest egg needs you focused on the collective rather than your individual needs. shed yr possessions to make room for something new. soon, you'll miss the void.
Capricorn
who's your audience? and what do you have to share with them? make a list of instructions and recycle that list into a poem. reverse engineer the recipe for good spirit. you might want to make a list of every connection you have. remind yourself of your personal influence. it's bigger than you think. the fans have demands but give your attention to one focus group at a time. investment in your friends could PAY your future self in cash, in bone broth, in clout. don't shy away from being the one who gives directions. you know how it should be done. sing the plan like the simplest, sweetest folk song.
Aquarius
thankfully, this new moon is a chance to make moves. with your career, your image and your (general) professional life. it's a time to set goals and charge your crystals with intentions but it's also a time to recognize the beauty of where you currently are. yes, it's a bummer to be "part of the system." but the system is working for you because you know how to work it. instead of giving up to stay comfortable, consider how your leadership can continue to ignite change. what are you OK with dismantling despite all that its done for you? maybe the goal is not to burn down the monolith but to disassemble the pieces and polish as you go. Doing this work might taste sour. But so do pickled beets. So does tangy candy. Vinegar removes grease and is an acquired taste.
Pisces
you've arrived at a resting place. an oasis. a waterfall. a place you've never known: a sacred text, a gorgeous coda, an unfinished novel. but you're not alone. the audience is here. the whole neighborhood is watching. your friends are cheering from their homes. the good spirit is here for this journey. it might be time to plan how you're going to share your unique spiritual gifts with the world. part of this plan should be maintaining wonder and delight. the appeal is looking at it through your eyes. it's called point of view, honey. maybe its not the pink sky but the stars that lie within it. open the treasure chest of your mind. everyone wants an invitation.
