horoscopes for the new moon in pisces
hallo bbz,
we're back from an extended 10. just in time for today's (or tomorrow's, depending on when you're reading this, probably today's) new moon in pisces happening on march 13, 2021 at 5:21 AM eastern standard time.
this new moon is a doozy. probably the most psychically taxing lunation of the entire year (and of the last year). you see this new moon is conjunct neptune. the planet of delusion and haze. a joke amongst astrolgers is that there is no planet more malefic than neptune. when we encounter neptune, we feel drunk, underwater, unable to think straight. but we also feel like ... we could do anything. the world is seen through rose-colored glasses. we are a horse of a different color.
earlier this week (on the 10th), neptune was exactly conjunct the sun. the sun is our life force, our energy to be. it's what makes us get up everyday and commit to the trials of our flesh sack. when neptune is with the sun, our direction is not clear and neither is our purpose. we don't what to get up. what's the point? i've described neptune as burnout. as we mark the one year anniversary of worldwide lockdowns, some of us can't wrap our heads around the calendar returning to March. weren't we here all along? It's not that nothing happened— it's just been a long, strange trip. there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. there seems to be help coming our way. but what is the light? and where is the help? and how did we get here? that's neptune.
I've been reading Rachel Cusk's Outline trilogy (per the recommendation of the earnest comp lit major bookseller at the small independent bookstore near my parents' house. as well as the suggestion of several Capricorn rising friends over the last few years but really because of the bookseller let's be real) and what strikes me, especially as I get into the second novel of the series Transit (which, yes, is a reference to astrology) is that Rachel Cusk seems to have mastered the art of the unreliable narrator. I mention this because she's captured the tone of someone who is only as wise as their ability to lie to themselves. Mastered the art of self-reflective delusion and illusion. A protagonist set aside as a supporting character whose brilliance misses the chance to analyze her own story. Simultaneously though, Cusk's characters are vulnerable, messy and chaotic (for the nerds out there: Rachel Cusk is an Aquarius but she has a grand water trine in her chart and her sun is also square Neptune). Balls of synapses who divulge things like, "But I knew it would have been as impossible for me to write a play now as to build a house on water, while floating on the sea."
If you've ever felt that weight, building a house while floating in the water: That's Neptune.
But Neptune also makes us brave. Brave enough to be something and also to be nothing. Today Venus is conjunct Neptune as well. The planet of love is exalted in the sign of Pisces where her love flows like an ocean or an endless river current, carving rocks into mountains and creating a livable habitat for millions and billions of aquatic species. Venus in Pisces love is impossible love. Like Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain level of epic impossibility. (To note: Heath Ledger was born while Venus was in Pisces). Venus in Pisces is the outsider artist whose posthumously discovered work feels more relevant than any of the "masters" of the time. Venus in Pisces is that never-ending feeling. A beautiful collapse. A necessary affair and a sweet escape.
this new moon also marks the halfway point between eclipses. Something bubbled to the surface back in late November and December and will come back again at the end of May. Venus, along with this lunation, is "at the bendings" or also straddling that sensitive point between eclipses. It's not just our life direction caught up in all of this. Our hearts are caught up too.
The truth is that Neptune is intoxicating. It's dumb. Neptune is an enemy of productive life. You won't make too many "smart" choices while you're high on Neptune but you'll also make some "not so smart" decisions that could change your life.
I don't say all of this to scare anyone. though I know at this point, i've gone on for over 700 words about how nothing makes sense right now. well, does it make sense? This new moon for many of us may be bring wonder, merriment, delight. A perfect scoop of ice cream, great sex, a peaceful night alone. This energy can be as heavenly as it is confusing. My point is that: it's not "normal." this lunation is actually here to remind us that "normal" is something we left behind last year or five years ago or maybe long before that. this new moon enlivens our imaginations, dares us to dream or just to float for awhile. Like a sensory deprivation tank. But also a popsicle.
When I was going through my own hard Neptune transit, someone gave me this advice (which I didn't listen to) which was that it was a time to consider "Vibes, not actions." Write a bunch of song lyrics or paint something that you show no one. Set up the projector and chill. Take note of how you're feeling and what's coming up but there's no need to act on it now. Collect the vibes and eventually, we'll find what's next.
Love you xoxo, Jaime

Aries
take a breath.
this might be your last chance for the foreseeable future to just relax.
questions that come up today include:
what's a body?
why even have a body?
is embodiment even all it's cracked up to be?
at the same time, yr drawn to some of your most fleshy, mortal vices.
social media is a hell of a drug. the endless scroll.
consider other ways to hypnotize yourself.
imagine a divine exile: a bath within an oasis within a fjord.
take this escape into your own meticulous hands.
Taurus
this new moon has you floating
at the best small town spring carnival you never attended.
dancing with the cotton candy.
you're the May Queen.
Not Florence Pugh in Midsommar but
it's not NOT Florence Pugh in Midsommar.
So be careful.
The flower crown pile looks better in photos than it feels.
when you have everyone's attention, you have to RECEIVE that attention.
it's delicious to be adored but also quite confusing.
be as gentle with yourself as everyone else is as they carry the train of your gown.
bask in the glow of participation.
Gemini
this new moon falls in your tenth house of career and public image
& you might be feeling drunk on achievement.
or maybe you feel like you blacked out and got a promotion.
or like you dropped acid, won an award and have NO IDEA what you said during your acceptance speech.
remember: this is the beginning.
the breadcrumb trail that leads to "how you got here" no longer matters
(& you ate those breadcrumbs anyway)
groundedness is hard to come by right now.
focus on finding your center.
take a seat at your desk and admire the view.
then, you'll fly.
Cancer
you're holding yr legacy like an orb.
a trip to Tokyo, a sip of broth, a lengthy novel with no end in sight.
keep gulping
you've been craving a chance to get out, be free, stimulate yr mind.
a fresh opportunity.
who knew there were so many steps to get there?
the escape is handed to you
but you're not sure if your stomach is up for it.
remember: yr collecting pieces of the puzzle
so you can come home and place your souvenirs on the counter,
next to the cherry pie.
Leo
there's a sweetness in letting someone else set the rules for you.
don't you think?
what's more regal than being carried in a chariot?
it's not monkfruit or stevia. it's not sugar in the raw.
this feeling? is pure honey. cane sugar. joy.
blind investment.
orgasmic cooperation.
you come as you are and someone else does all the heavy lifting—
including lifting you.
higher than you've ever been lifted before.
organize, organize, organize. ok?
write yourself off
as both the oyster and the pearl.
Virgo
in theatre school, we do exercises
capturing negative space.
not just for visual artists.
negative space is equally physical.
awareness of our surroundings
comes with noticing how those surroundings
are surrounding someone else.
I think these these exercises are about
respecting a shape,
making sure that emptiness is held.
A nod of respect to the void.
this new moon falls in your 7th house of partnership,
relationship, the other.
what's sitting right there—holding space—and ready to be celebrated?
this negative space is meant to be beautiful.
it's a new frontier.
graining toward Bethlehem.
Libra
how precisely can you cut that citrus?
the blood orange, the cara cara, the lime.
it's all dressing a fresh piece of salmon.
baked slowly at 300º F.
when the moon is in pisces, you can't float
as much as everyone else.
you need to work and be OK with the disorganization
of your life.
the fantasy of "having it all together" sits well with you today.
from your high rise by the sea.
what if you let yourself take up more of that salty, oceanic space?
you're not bothering anyone but yourself.
Scorpio
questioning whether you "deserve" to feel this good is a waste of your time
this new moon is an expansive euphoria.
pour over coffee (the slow way)
dripping elegantly
steam and ice
(never a harsh reminder, only a blissful pore cleanse)
a saturn's day so indulgent & legato,
you think you've reinvented the wheel (molasses).
this is what Alice Waters was talking about (I think)
from her floral perch.
gobbling down her breakfast tacos.
another hour in the sheets; just use protection.
or take it all in from a safe distance.
this particular reality melts away easily
so carve yourself a nook as a reminder of this joy.
Sagittarius
how can you settle into a routine
when you aren't sure where you live?
how can you find community when you've left yourself somewhere unrecognizable?
this new moon is an oasis in the desert.
which spoiler alert: could be an illusion but can something imaginary still quench your thirst?
can a poltergeist hang onto your set of spare keys?
Grounding feels impossible right now,
like you're trying to walk on water.
it's like that quicksand from the cartoons.
someone can pull you out but maybe the mud bath is what you actually need.
hydrate and breathe.
let the whirlpool exfoliate yr nerves.
Capricorn
a lot can happen on a road trip.
cars take you to incredible places.
sometimes it isn't necessary to fly away, over the ocean,
to release yourself from everything you know.
maybe the escape you need is planning
the logistics of the drive.
who has the playlist?
who has the snacks?
how many miles until you can rest your head?
how many days until California?
take your body on a quick trip to the ocean
and carefully choose all the elements coming along.
sunscreen, a novel, corn chips.
bring a love along too.
this new moon is about falling in love with what is already there.
bringing the salty sea to your front door and staying awhile.
Aquarius
this new moon falls in your second house of finances, income and values.
your stuff.
what you eat.
how you dress yourself.
so you can't help but feel seasick; morose about the material realm.
what is any of this stuff.
papers and obligations and overwhelm.
your escape is shopping, indulgence, another round of takeout.
"it's YOUR money" is what the guiding principle seems to be.
this new moon may have you wanting to be more.
but what if you imagined being (and having) just enough?
what if everything had its right place?
take a bite of the egg roll and organize your bookshelf.
Pisces
"tread lightly" she says.
"but do you want a piece of this yellow cake?" she continues.
the frosting is pink.
this psychic new moon is in your sign and more than usual, you're floating, untethered,
weary of consumption.
allow yourself the cake,
allow yourself the cocoon.
wallow if you must.
receive word of your beauty.
but don't oblige to the usual pressure to respond and sing praises to everyone else.
there's nothing that can't wait for you to catch up.
check on yourself; give your feet a rest; put on the slippers that say,
"No I won't be leaving the house."
this sage green aura won't last forever so bathe in it.
