I’ve had this New Moon in Cancer circled on my calendar for a long time, knowing it was the sweetest one of the year. (Also knowing that it would beautifully light up my chart and perhaps lead to some auspicious moments in my own career or relationships lol.) I was so excited to write about it for you! But of course last Friday afternoon (fresh off the SCOTUS ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, already a terribly dark day), I took a rapid test to discover that yes, I have baby’s first case of COVID-19. I’ve spent much of the last few days alternately napping, taking Epsom salt baths and only consuming media that I want to forever associate with this strange, novel virus. (I will not start the new season of Only Murders in the Building until I feel better, but I did make the Kacey Musgraves divorce album a sacrificial lamb of my viral malaise.)
Anyway this is why I’m starting to write this newsletter just before the New Moon goes exact (6/28 at 10:52 pm ET), and you’re likely receiving it on the lunation’s other side. (Also why I’m keeping things rather short and taking down the paywall.)
This New Moon is a special one, probably the loveliest of the year. It doesn’t make a direct hard aspect to either bad boy malefic planet (Saturn and Mars), and with the Sun and Moon both at 7º Cancer, it perfects in an exact square to lively Jupiter in Aries. The Sun and Jupiter are in each other’s signs of exaltation, and Venus is making a supportive sextile to Jupiter. New Moons can be sleepy, introspective times. It’s often best to wait for the Universe to come to you. But with all this benefic interference, this New Moon may have you chomping at the bit to get started. It’s still necessary to wait (at least until Thursday or Friday) to plow ahead on anything. But if you’re excited about something, write it all down. This New Moon download is a sweet parting gift before we get into the more difficult astrology of the second half of 2022.
Cancer moons are always tender times because Cancer is an actual time keeper, the custodian of our shared memories. I like to describe Cancer as the matriarch. But not in that cliché overbearing maternal way. Cancer is the head of the household, pure feminine power, the rhythmic goddess of time who we can’t help but worship. Neptune stationed retrograde just before this New Moon went exact making everything feel extra nostalgic, hazy or sentimental. When Neptune’s involved, crushes get crushier, and we’re left with more questions than answers. Neptune also encourages us to take risks. Who can touch you when you’re floating on air?
The Moon moves around the earth in an elliptical shape between the perigee, the point where its closest to the Earth during its orbit, and the apogee where the moon is farthest from Earth during its orbit. The lunar apogee is also known as Black Moon Lilith: a purely lunar realm where the moon is in isolation from everything else. The New Moon in Cancer is exactly conjunct Black Moon Lilith. When Black Moon Lilith is emphasized in a chart or through a lunation, we’re collectively asked to reckon with the story of the mythological Lilith. The vilified maiden. The feminine as outcast. The woman declared a “she-demon” because she dared to live a life free from the influence of men.
Lilith was never trying to banish men, but I do believe that she was trying to forge a path back to the goddess-worshipping, matriarchal, partnership cultures that made up most of human society before all the fun was ruined in the dick-swinging Bronze Age. 40,000 years ago, humans were communing with the sky, fucking in the fields and making statues of hot, curvy goddesses. Lilith just wanted us to go back to that. But the men in suits (religious, economic or otherwise) would have none of it. This New Moon casts us all in the role of Lilith and allows her to rise again.
This New Moon is benefic, dynamic and feminine. A truly dangerous combination. Take whatever inspiration Jupiter’s throwing your way at this moment and run with it. You’re highly capable to get what you want. Just use your powers wisely.

Horoscopes follow for each sign. Read for your rising sign if you want to vibe with what’s “really” “happening;” check in with your sun (if you’re born during the day) or moon (if you’re born at night) if you want a second opinion. If you’d like to go further on this journey, I’d love to dive into your chart together so book a reading!
Cancer
The word that comes to mind for you re: this New Moon is: debut. You’re letting everyone know who you are. Loudly and without apologies. Some recent professional success is meant to be celebrated, even if you don’t yet know where it’s leading. That being said, this success (and your career) does not define you. It’s one small part of the gorgeous mosaic of your life. Research & rest make you happy right now so make time for that to bubble and ferment.
Leo
There are obviously so many decisions for you to be making re: where you work, where you live, what you do, etc. But this New Moon isn’t about that. This New Moon is for admiring the machinery. The obsessions, passions, errands and moments that run your life are all functioning beautifully today. You even have time to see a friend. This isn’t a “break.” It’s an appreciation for what life really is: living in the moment.
Virgo
This New Moon opens up some lovely windows for collaboration and cathartic conversation. When you’re talking to the right people, getting something off your chest actually feels good! Who knew? It feels nice to show up for others right now because you’re actually showing up for yourself. Go see a friend’s play or that movie your coworker recommended. You’ll actually like it! Good decision.
Libra
This New Moon is for you to take up more space in the world. To show up unapologetically as yourself. Trying not to sound cringe here, but really: you’re glowing! You’re (for the most part) getting the right kinds of attention. You feel like you’re finally on the right path, even if you’re not quite there yet. What’s changed is that you no longer feel like you’re doing it alone. Or … you know who you want to bring on the team. Get it in writing and go forth!
Scorpio
This is a good New Moon for you to do some divination. I’m not saying splurge on a tarot reading. I’m saying pull a book off the shelf, open to a random page, and do some bibliomancy. The spirits in your life have something very clear to say, and the only interpreter you need is your own open mind. Get really specific about the question before you ask it. The more space you fill with routine and discipline, the less room you’ll have for fear.
Sagittarius
We talk about Cancer as a memory keeper and you perhaps take the most pride of any sign in tending to the Cancer part of your chart. The power dynamics are precious here: it’s where we share resources, pay our debts and honor our dead. This New Moon is about severing ties with someone. It’s also about letting someone else back into your heart or your sphere or your space who you thought would never return. Open the door gently and make room for sharing.
Capricorn
This New Moon offers you a safe, warm cocoon to gather with your lover and talk everything out together. It’s a fierce confirmation that you shouldn’t do it alone, and also that you won’t do it alone. Tending to the little mundane tasks around the house, garden and neighborhood keep you occupied this summer when gravity gets unreliable. Sign the contract and affirm the agreement, as long as it all feels good in your gut.
Aquarius
This New Moon lets you feel thankful that life continues. Even in the darkest times, you’re still here. You’ve made it through before and you’ll make it through again. It’s a joy to get lost in the details. Spend all day preparing a meal. Fill your water jug with lemons and cucumber. Harvest that tiny bounty in your backyard garden and make a salad for one. It’s always impressive to be in control.
Pisces
You deserve all the love, pleasure and romance that’s coming your way at this New Moon. You deserve to get exactly what you want. It’s nerve-wracking, though. This realization that ultimately you’re the one in power, you’re the one who has to make a move. But don’t let that stop you. Jupiter’s influence is reminding you that you’re worth it. What’s worse: the embarrassment of being left on read or the worry of never knowing what might have been?
Aries
This New Moon empowers you. Not in your public persona, but in your private life. This New Moon is a housewarming, but not one that turns into a rager. It’s a quiet ritual with candles and a few close friends. It’s an intimate environment where you can express your full self. You’re going deep and coming home. Take note of what feels comfortable as well as what no longer feels familiar. Now’s the time to set your summer rotation.
Taurus
This New Moon is for gathering the coven and checking in with the sisterhood. You don’t need to be the leader or the admin dom or the energetic center of anything. You just need to be a part of a whole, a cog in the loving machine. There’s value in everything you have to offer, but what if you kept some of it for yourself? What if those strawberry ice pops were for you and you alone? Follow what feeds you.
Gemini
What’s really worth it? Who’s really worth it? This New Moon demands you answer those questions. Though you’re used to lots of fluctuation when it comes to both your cash flow and your self worth, something about today gives you confidence. You can do it. The resources you need to realize some dreams are finally coming together, even if it feels like you’re nowhere close to the finish line. Remember those dreams that never saw the light of day? This won’t be one of them.
