Before I get into the musings and the ‘scopes, it’s a Virgo Full Moon so, first some bulletpoints:
My books are currently open through the end of April. Post-eclipse season (aka May), I will likely be re-structuring my prices and offerings (mostly for new clients) so if you’d like to get in on my current pricing, book now before it’s too late. If you’d like a refresher on my services, check out the post on that here.
Thank you to all who wrote sweet notes around the New Moon in Pisces or sent tips for my birthday! <3 I asked for feedback then, but keep it coming. This offering is nothing without you. I mean that!!!
I’m playing with the idea of doing a monthly class or workshop around the New Moon this Spring (April, May & June dates) with topics sourced from clients and newsletter subscribers. Lmk if this is something you’d be interested in, price would be somewhere in the $20-30 range depending on interest, and subscribers to moon missives would def get a discount on that rate ;)
Just a reminder: the best way to support my work currently is to get a paid subscription to this newsletter ($7/month or $77/year)—when I reach my next goal (100 paid subscribers), I will be able to guarantee weekly missives (rather than the sort-of-weekly/sort-of-biweekly aspirational state of the newsletter currently) <3 Paid subscribers get extra content and there will be even more of it if there are more of you!
Ok, now for what you really opened this for…
I’ve been thinking a lot about the frustration that comes when I lose sight of my own talents and set my heart on someone else’s vision. Why don’t I write like her? Why is my home decor so minimalist and basic? Why do my friends connect with that post and not with mine? It’s never helpful to get into these cycles of compare and despair. And yet, it’s so easy to fall into the trap. If I’ve learned anything from watching the first three episodes of Life After Death with Tyler Henry though, it’s that, the message that’s meant for us knows how to reach us. (Or, our guides always speak in a language we can understand.)
Life After Death, a Netflix documentary series, follows the story of famous psychic medium Tyler Henry as he gives readings to friends and strangers, and works to solve a family mystery. This series is my first view into his work, and by twenty minutes into the first episode, I was obsessed with his process, all the idiosyncrasies of it. When speaking with the dead, Tyler receives coded messages from his guides. He scribbles with ballpoint pen on college-ruled paper in a leather folio, giving an outsider artist quality to the otherwise highly produced method. He hears Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” when the departed person he’s connecting to was the type who, in his words, “lived life to the fullest.” When relaying that to information to his client, he says, “I know that’s a weird thing to say.” It’s his method and his madness.
Beyond the fact that Tyler seems like a very sweet and genuine person, I was struck by how clear he was in his work. Though the majority of us do not chat with the dead or even identify as intuitive, this poetic act is what we all do when we tap into our creativity. It’s the heart of any generative process, the basis of both performance and Acting (tm). As my dear friend David recently said re: a brilliant Cameo from Aida Turturro that I received as a birthday gift, “the truest actors don’t need to do anything other than open direct lines to their uncommonly amplified joy.” Actors find characters where someone else finds a brilliant invention and where Tyler meets the dead. These things are always there, we just need to listen. Creativity is a channel and the process is not always sensical or intelligible or picturesque. Sometimes we make a masterpiece, often we mess around, but always, it’s beautiful.
I’ve been thinking about how tonight’s Full Moon in Virgo (exact at 3:17 am ET on March 18th) is an opportunity to establish a clear channel. The Virgo Full Moon always comes as a practical antidote in the midst of dreamy Pisces season. Pisces and Virgo are both service oriented signs, focused on others as much as themselves, but Pisces very easily gets lost in transit, saturated in fantasy. This Pisces Season has been particularly hazy. That’s not to say there hasn’t been a lot of happiness too. With Jupiter at home in Pisces, there’s been a wave of optimism: the salve we all needed after years of Saturnian restriction during this ongoing pandemic. At the same time, the destabilizing influence of Neptune has left us feeling hungover, exhausted, and tired from trying while the ongoing besiegement of Venus has made every connection feel hard won. Like always, joy and struggle go hand in hand. The Full Moon in Virgo asks, “So what are we going to do about it?” For this special occasion, we make a charcuterie board of all our big feels, giving into the illusion of organized indulgence. The Full Moon brings order—or, at least the first murmurings of it—to a tangled web of chaos.
Think back to September 6, 2021 when we had our last New Moon in Virgo. Even better, think back to September 17, 2020 when there was a New Moon in Virgo very close to the degree of today’s Full Moon. New Moons are a blank slate (though not without lingering baggage) while Full Moons bring release. Was inspiration knocking on your door back in September 2020 or September 2021? Were you curious to start something? Nervously putting forth a hypothesis? Or did you just feel empty? Content with survival, nothing more. Whether or not you started this cycle with intention, the Full Moon brings a culmination, a chance to celebrate or to grieve. This Full Moon in particular creates space for tying things together. That doesn’t mean doing it all at once though. It means doing the one tiny thing you need to do to prevent everything else from falling apart.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently shared photos of Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens on Instagram. She and her French Bulldog Deco sit in the garden, surrounded by mosaics. In the caption, she writes,
“Sometimes people will ask me, ‘There is so much happening in the world and in the country, and it all feels so big and overwhelming —what can even do as one person?’ What I try to convey each time is that no action is too small, and if you feel so moved, you can and should start with whatever is within arm’s reach or in your backyard. You can even start with yourself.
…Revolutionary and transformative changes, from the inside out happen more like mosaics. Think of it like this: no matter who we are, how visible or invisible or big or small, each one of us is just one tile. Whether you see that as liberating or disempowering is a matter of perspective.”
As she expands on this mosaic metaphor, AOC taps into an essential truth that I think speaks to the greater themes around today’s Full Moon. Yes, the Full Moon in Virgo is a cleanup crew, reminding us of lists we made and bullet journals we abandoned back in September. But it’s also the small tiles, the small gestures (Virgo) that come together to create a kaleidoscopic mosaic (Pisces). Virgo needs Pisces vision just as much as Pisces needs Virgo’s precision. “We need each other far more than we realize,” writes AOC. Many say that Gemini and Sagittarius are the “most alike” of all the opposite signs, but sometimes I really think Pisces and Virgo are indistinguishable. “Saints and poets maybe.”
We start with a gesture. We divine with a ballpoint pen. Tonics are medicinal. There’s magic in the mundane, etc. etc. What’s meant to come through you always finds a way. Just take that Virgo initiative and start with something small.
Horoscopes follow for each sign. I suggest you read for your rising sign if you know it, as well as for your sun sign (if you were born during the day) or your moon sign (if you were born at night). These horoscopes were meant to be found.
Virgo
Celebrating yourself requires less effort than you think it does.
If success is not a feeling, but an action—
where do you want to be and how do you want to dress to get in character?
Libra
You don’t owe anyone an excuse for why you need a break.
That being said, it’s important to take responsibility for yourself in the void.
Discipline makes space for release.
Scorpio
Everyone loves when you show up to the party,
fully geeked on whatever’s inspiring you.
So show up. How else will your friends be able to support your dreams?
Sagittarius
Flexibility isn’t a problem for you and honesty comes easy.
What if you stopped judging your own fluctuations as a liability
and treated them like an asset instead?
Capricorn
Trust the mechanics of your goals while sinking into the mystery of here & now.
Your spiritual gifts and practices could use a refresh;
Keep your devotions simple and let your curiosities bloom.
Aquarius
As you find more comfort with your own abundance,
it’s time to make a plan to share.
Clear some space through forgiving energetic debts that never mattered anyway.
Pisces
More than anyone, you know that defining the other
is the first step to finding more wholeness in yourself.
So why are you waiting to shout your love from the rooftops? We’re listening.
Aries
When you’re fully engaged in your practice—your divine methodologies—
your enthusiasm lights up the room, inspiring everyone’s effort.
How can you lighten your load to increase your reach?
Taurus
When you allow yourself time away from your audience, friends, the greater noise
you realize that what you want is super specific and completely yours.
Don’t give an ounce of that joy away.
Gemini
This Full Moon is a return to center but let’s be real—
was the route you took here way more complicated than it needed to be?
Write down the directions so you don’t get lost again.
Cancer
Right now you’re blessed with a full schedule, but what if tomorrow
all this responsibility was taken off your plate?
Commit to what keeps you full, even off the clock.
Leo
Sure, it’s noble to attempt to live without material attachments,
but for you, sustainable investments do provide a lot of comfort.
How would you furnish your oasis if you knew all of it was yours?
