horoscopes for the full moon in cancer
oh my sweet bbz,
we did it! we made it! we've lived through almost every moment of the year of our disaster 2020. hallelujah!
I've been referring to 2020 as the "last year of the past" / "the death knell of the old way" / "the final level before we get to the future."
the jupiter/saturn conjunction on the 21st (did you see the live broadcast through the telescope at griffifth observatory? definitely worth checking out if only to catch a little glimpse of saturn's rings and jupiter's moons!) happened in the first degree of aquarius, in the decan of that sign known as "the mark of exile." we're moving away from something. collectively. culturally. spiritually. for the next two hundred years, these jupiter/saturn conjunctions will happen exclusively air signs. our once-in-20-year cultural resets will be about mining communications and technology. the internet is only going to get more powerful. we will travel at lightning speed. aliens do exist. this future is something that has been here since 1981 (when the jupiter/saturn conjunction occurred in the sign of libra) but this year, we are finally living in it. we're moving away from digging into the earth, destroying the land, building the tallest structure and stealing resources. these impulses are about to drift away. it's about our minds ––and mind control–– now.
tonight (December 29, 2020) at 10:28 PM EST, there is a full moon in cancer. this is the first full moon in cancer since 2016 that isn't also an eclipse or afflicted by Saturn (or both!). for the last few years, the full moon in cancer ––meant to be a wholesome, generous, sensitive time where the moon can be really be herself, thrive, cry if she wants to–– has come with many caveats. the cancer full moons of 2017, 2018 and 2019 (especially 2019) were not a lovely sob fest with a good friend but reminders that it is in fact our duty to mourn, to shed, to consolidate. in the winters of 2017, 2018 and 2019, we weren't hunkering down for the winter as much as we were desperately building a bomb shelter. the air is clearer this year. the shelter is built and we're allowed to be much cozier during the storm. this doesn't make things any easier but it does make them less sharp.
cancer is the moon's own sign. Luna is in her domicile in the place of the crab. she answers to no one. this is lovely but also complicated. what if she needs advice? the moon in cancer knows how to care because she has to because she answers to no one. she's the answer.
this full moon may leave a lot of us in a very tender place. it's simple really. we're being allowed a container to process the grief of this year. the struggle of this moment. & all of the work that is still yet to come. 2021 is not going to be easier. it's going to require dedication from all of us. it's going to require innovation from all of us. let this cancer moon cut us deep so we can sew ourselves back up and get to work. tonight's full moon makes a supportive sextile connection (like two friends holding hands) with Uranus. revolution wants to come along for the ride. we're not being pushed to change but we're inviting change to take a walk in the park.
things to do or consider or sit with at this full moon:
-listening to songs you actually like, not songs that make you feel cool
-eating intuitively
-journaling in lots of tiny lists
-a bubble bath with a glass of Lambrusco and a good cry
-thinking about calling a friend but maybe just staring out the window instead
-setting up a new home
-declaring a new space
-the gesture of invitation
-the shape of care
-the volume of nourishment
-the length of a river
full moons illuminate something. bring ideas to their culmination. celebrations and break ups come at these moments. with the full moon in cancer, we already know what's being illuminated, so we have to maintain what comes up in the gentlest way possible. it's a moment to tuck our sorrows into bed. give them a place to feel safe too.
january is going to be a turbulent month –– Mars enters Taurus on the 6th (after spending 6 months in its home sign Aries, another planet being its own boss) and then Mercury enters Aquarius and Venus enters Capricorn on the 8th. By the second week of 2021, we won't recognize the vibe. things are going to heat up fast. hold space for what's uncomfortable now before there's no time to catch your breath or take a seat.
love you and happy almost new year,
jaime

Aries
you knew you felt a certain tenderness about that one home,
the one where you're from
but you didn't realize you felt another tenderness about the home
where you currently reside.
it doesn't matter which of these is reality and which is fantasy or who is your family or who you haven't seen in years. this full moon reminds you that you've built this foundation for yourself.
it isn't what you imagined for yourself initially but it's yours.
this is your retreat, your private world.
no one expects you to be this much of a homebody but sit with it tonight and thrive in it.
light every 3wick candle on your coffee table, get a bottle of the good wine and wrap yourself in every blanket you own.
if you find yourself in a pit of nostalgia, run with it. own it.
look through the photos, DM that old friend who you haven't heard from since 2006.
call your mom and ask her to tell you the entire story of your birth or your grandma's apple pie recipe or have her regale you with the hilarious tale of your second cousin's third failed wedding.
you'll feel better after indulging it all. don't be cheap with your heart.
Taurus
maybe you've felt stifled for the last few years because "you don't know enough"
the albatross of expertise was always hurling judgmental looks your way
you aren't alone in feeling like you haven't "gotten there yet" but take that as proof that all the gatekeeping is bullshit. you have the skills to pull you through. you have the words so say them.
this full moon falls in the part of your chart which represents your personal universe, your individual environment, your curatorial skills. who have you kept around who is making too much noise? who can you allow some extra stage time? whose number needs to get blocked? and who needs to be removed from your favorites list?
when was the last time you took a long bike ride, rented a car and just drove in circles near the lake.
that feeling of freedom can be simple and doesn't require "leveling up" or "running away."
freedom often comes from knowing exactly why and where and how you are.
familiarity is intoxicating: a ride in the car when you know exactly where you're going.
the muscle memory kicks in and it's only you and that one winding road and the radio playing pop hits and the window slightly cracked and a glance in the rear view. confident in your knowledge of what's already come and what's still ahead.
Gemini
This full moon brings a sense of security, a burst of self esteem or a taste of excellence.
if you've been considering grilling that steak, pulling that pork or dicing up those daikon radishes for a special pickle ––well, get on it. when isn't the time? is really the question. when isn't the moment to take your space
and claim what's yours? cancer is the part of your chart that's all about your stuff, your belongings. some might say your income, your material possessions but really it's about staking a claim, making it yours .
making the best of things. you don't have to feel guilty about emotional shopping, indulging in materialism, going to brunch. you're only human. you only have needs. meet them, ok?
if you're feeling pressured to reduce how much space you take up, purge your belongings or run away from
a promising castle: ignore those messages of defeat.
it's ok to take up a whole world and fill it however you like.
getting yourself comfortable is the first step.
Cancer
since 2017, it hasn't been easy to be you. to get up and face the day.
though saturn is no longer staring you down, the north node is no longer leaving you with a feeling of constant hunger and jupiter is no longer enriching your relationships while still making them endlessly complicated,
you're still exhausted af. this full moon is for crying in the bath unapologetically. it's for eating a dozen cookies. choosing the jelly donut. opening up page 1 of your fresh journal or 2021 planner and letting your tears do the writing.
salt hurts in the wound but delights on the page so make the ocean part of the plan.
all you can ask of yourself tonight and for the next two weeks is to be.
it's such a burden to have a body, to be embodied, to wake up everyday in a corporeal state.
this lunation reminds you of the despair of that and the beauty of that.
no one's forcing you to do this but it's a pleasure to say yes.
your friends have some ideas for getting in good trouble.
take their calls while you lie on the couch and rest.
Leo
This full moon has you feeling spooky, Leo.
Haunted.
Like you're wearing an invisibility cloak, need to say a million mantras and fall into a deep, monastic practice of meditation. You want to disappear. You want to explore the infinite abyss. Go ahead. Go off.
"Home" as a place for you is often beside the point.
You exist on the border of everything; neither here nor there.
Nourishment comes when you get to shake off your persona, lay the many façades of the day (the week) out to dry on the line. You're not a ghost but a shining orb. You can travel the world in a moment.
In this state, you make your own head spin. You catch everyone's eye and then you're gone.
Don't give it all away.
You love to smile at the cash register, whistle while you work and impress everyone with your wit but there's no point keeping it up today.
Let it go, let it be and take a rest.
Normalize disappearing if only for a few hours into airplane mode, a nap or a long walk through the woods.
Discipline is about knowing when to retreat.
Virgo
Connection is a lot of work and finding your people can feel impossible.
Tonight's full moon allows you to see that you really have built a world for yourself.
in the last year or two or three, you've opened yourself up to entirely new experiences
and the universe has responded with loving co-conspirators, delivered an audience or just provided coworkers who don't suck.
you've challenged yourself to circulate so let yourself be held.
remember that connection and friendship requires upkeep. like any kind of love.
regularity is familiarity and contribution is invitation;
don't let obligation become a curse.
yes, of course: as you've evaluated your joy, put yourself through the ringer, forced yourself to sit with actual authenticity, you've lost some people along the way.
this lunation is about resisting the urge of revenge, of bitterness, of slamming the door.
let the people who walked away gently walk away.
maybe you'll meet again someday, some other night.
until then, light the candles and pay attention to who inspires you.
Libra
for the last few years, making something of yourself has become a bit of a variety show.
every moment feels like a coming out party.
"this is who I am, this is what I do, this is how I make it work;
this is what I used to do, this is what I could never do, this is how I got where I am."
your image has grown exponentially but you've felt like a disaster. cleaning up after yourself. carrying a broom to the awards show and sweeping up your jumbled past as you carry your gown.
tonight, you're on top of the mountain, allowed a view of how far you've come: uninterrupted.
(the truth is: no one was ever asking you to explain yourself but you felt you had to)
whether you're thrilled or disappointed with where you're at, you have to admit that you've come a long way.
you've made ... something. and now all you need to do is let yourself be more than a supporting character in your own story.
you can be measured and calm, no longer juggling or forcing the jazz hands.
if you need a pause, take it.
but know for now that for the most part, you've done enough.
you've established a space so who can you lift up?
Scorpio
where do you want to go? what's your intuition?
this full moon is a reminder that it's been a long time since you've been able to get away.
there's been too much responsibility, too much worrying about everyone else's needs and wishes.
the work is never done and your time is always in demand.
you've given up your autonomy to many things that seem worth it but are you really following your own dreams? you have a legacy to create and now's the time to let yourself want that.
it doesn't matter if you're satisfied with what you're currently getting because part of you knows that you're giving up something more. i'm not saying run away or give up on the path you're currently following.
you're doing a good job. things are working! and on the flip side, you know what it feels like to burnout.
tonight it isn't the burnout that's getting you,
just the nagging sensation that this isn't everything. this isn't it.
leave on the pilgrimage, sign up for the course, take a moment (metaphorically) away.
allow the joy to rush in but recognize where you still need to grow.
no one else can tell you how but in your gut, you know the way.
Sagittarius
you have people to feed and they're relying on you.
tonight's full moon is a tough reminder ––but an important one––
of all the ways you've let yourself be intertwined.
the beautiful ways and the chaotic ways.
you signed that lease, gave up that dream, moved to satisfy your love
and this is where you're at. You're home. Again.
beside yourself but always with yourself.
home is no longer simply about you; it's about those who need you to carry the key.
validation is besides the point and collaboration is the answer.
combining your powers with others is magic.
there's a reason the astrological house that represents "other people's money" also represents "the occult."
balancing the dynamic is the spell.
this lunation allows you to see what it would be like to find perfect harmony only to disrupt it again and life continues on this imperfect yet always thrilling ride.
Capricorn
just when you were finally feeling some relief,
you must focus on "the other."
whether that's your partner, a collaborator or just your performative self,
the moment you were intending to use to breathe ––as saturn and jupiter have finally excused themselves from your sign–– must be used to pick up someone else's pieces.
it's not that you don't love doing it but wouldn't it be nice to have a glass of wine or read a book or throw yourself one tiny little goddamn party?
don't worry: your healing journey isn't being skipped. just delayed. ever so briefly put on pause.
you want to come together, more than anything, to clean up the jigsaw puzzles and present those thousands of little pieces as one cohesive whole.
you want to be admired like the pantone color of the year.
but for now, it's not the time.
prepare the hot water bottle for someone else and schedule your nap for later in the week.
Aquarius
this full moon asks you to create a new set of rituals.
for years, you've been overwhelmed with shoulds and shouldn'ts, dietary restrictions, pets that need attention, endless busy work and fresh responsibilities.
literally or figuratively, you've brought someone or something into the world and met the responsibility of caring for this person or that project with dignity and grace.
now, you must take what you've learned and reconfigure.
not to complicate things but to go easier on yourself.
no one's watching you, grading you, critiquing you.
there's not going to be a write up in the paper.
skip the extra flour if you like the dough better with just a smidge of extra salt.
forget the lessons you think you have to learn. you're smart.
you're actually ready to write the manual on how to be a person, how to get things done, how to manage a flesh sack like an expert.
it's OK to find comfort in the battle but you don't have to trick yourself into loving the relentless plan.
Pisces
it feels foolish to follow your bliss but tonight, be a fool.
be like the moon: bright, unwavering, full-frontal exposed.
a DM to your crush is just a moment in the woods and a second bowl of pasta is just a second bowl of pasta. Perfect. You're perfect.
It's a risk to go with joy and prioritize you own pleasure.
you've spent the greater part of the last few years wondering how to make yourself fit inside everyone else's expectations. you've grown a lot, let go of bad friends and found your audience.
they won't leave you just because you want to laugh, sing or dance.
write the poem about the can of la croix sitting on your desk and post it on Instagram.
I'm serious.
this is a moment to celebrate your inner child and it might feel so wonderful that it becomes dangerous.
romance is a wide open field not an empty gesture or a premeditated comeuppance.
have your cake and eat it again and again and again.
are you always expecting a yolk when you crack an egg into a pan?
what if there's treasure making that oil splatter, causing a mess.
you'll never break free until you make a scene.
