Did you see that big moon in the sky last night? She was glowing—orbs for days as the kids say.
The full moon in Scorpio goes exact on May 12, 2025 at 12:55 pm ET. Each year the Scorpio full moon is a bit of a jump scare. Coming in the middle of Taurus season as those of us in the northern hemisphere are lulled into a glorious springtime nap. For a brief moment, we can pretend that life is wonderfully uncomplicated. It’s 70º and everything is as it should be. And then YIKES, HERE COME THE BIG FEELS.
I’m not sure there’s a better image for a Full Moon in Scorpio than Beyoncé, looking like a wildflower in a gauzy yellow dress, emerging into a great flood of water on the steps of a great hall. This image is of course from the video for “Hold Up” off her album Lemonade which was released on April 23, 2016 during a Scorpio full moon. Beyoncé was also born with the moon in Scorpio, very close to the degree of today’s full moon.
The moon itself is a satellite, always moving. In daily life and in each of our birth charts, it speaks to how we emotionally regulate. The moon is said to be in her fall in Scorpio, or out of her element. This is because the moon in Scorpio is deeply vulnerable. She feeds on emotional truth and unbreakable vows. And let’s be real, that makes daily life, a thing that requires a certain amount of posturing, very difficult. Scorpio moons are constantly trying to build certainty in the uncertain and consistency in the inconsistent. Sometimes to their own detriment, avoiding their own inconsistencies and uncertainties in order to survive. The moon in Scorpio wants devotion and vulgarity and kinky sex. The moon in Scorpio divulges, causes ruptures, picks at the wound. Many of us like to bypass pain, but Scorpio moons thrive in tending to it. Scorpio moons heal and celebrate the scars.
Today’s full moon in Scorpio makes us aware of vulnerabilities, of the weak spots in the plan. This full moon also shines a light on each of our incredible capacities for love. The full moon goes exact at 22º Scorpio and falls in a part of the zodiac that is co-ruled by Venus. This is a part of the zodiac for surreal poems and immersive filmmaking. It’s deeply creative and romantic, but it’s also delusional. It’s a part of the zodiac where we conjure great work, and also where we get consumed by fantasy and limerence.
Another image for this Full Moon in Scorpio is the Tarot’s 7 of Cups, a card associated with the part of the zodiac where today’s full moon falls. The Golden Dawn called this card Debauch. There’s wild indulgence and sensual pleasures here. And in the Thoth deck, this card becomes a surrealist fountain. Blooming, dying flowers. A fantastical fondue. Teacups of terror. A place of abundance that only makes sense in dream logic. “You had to be there.”
Sometimes in the throes of fantasy, it’s easy to believe that the longing is the great work itself. I myself have clocked many overtime hours at the romantic obsession factory. This Full Moon, which goes exact opposite radical Uranus, shocks us out of slumber, making the difference between obsession and inspiration very clear. With Mars in self-honoring Leo, it’s less about dismissing the obsession and more about redirecting that power back to ourselves. Reconciling fantasy and reality lets us move forward with grace. And maybe realize that we were doing the right thing in the wrong place.
This is the final full moon in Scorpio that will go exact opposing Uranus in Taurus. Since 2018, Uranus in Taurus has been shaking up the Earth. Uranus in Taurus has been a symbol of food scarcity and climate collapse, an omen of organic technologies, and a relentless reminder that the only constant is change. The Scorpio full moons we’ve experienced while Uranus in Taurus have opened floodgates of feelings in response to these changes. Fixed signs like things to stay the same. But they can’t. So we grieve. And then we adjust. I suggest reflecting on what you were doing on or around these dates of previous Scorpio full moons:
May 18, 2019
May 7, 2020
April 27, 2021
May 15, 2022 - this full moon was also a lunar eclipse and very directly related to today’s full moon — I bet you’ve come a long way since this date
May 5, 2023 - this full moon was also a lunar eclipse
April 23, 2024
As you reflect on these dates, the point isn’t to dwell. Release the cringe. The medicine of today’s full moon is breaking away from the habits that keep us circling the same Scorpionic drain. Mercury’s in Taurus, make something with your hands. Channel that capacity for love, beauty and debauchery into something ecstatic.
Beautifully stated and eerily accurate! From Taurus new moon to full moon in Scorpio, everything will be revealed and be prepared to feel the seismic impact! Happy full moon in Scorpio!
