Happy Full Moon in Aquarius!
The Full Moon is today (August 1) at 2:31 PM ET at 9º Aquarius.
I’m writing to you from the scene of the crime, aka The Black Flamingo coffee shop in Red Hook which is where I sat in August 2021 while putting together the first *Substack edition* of moon missives. That first edition was released on a Full Moon in Aquarius with Mercury and Mars in Virgo just like they are now. Not only is it the Lunar return of this newsletter (more on that later) which happens every month, it’s also the Mercury return (which occurs annually) and the Mars return (which repeats only once every two years!) of this newsletter. The Mars return is especially important because it allows us to reset our energy, focus and motivation. Mars is movement, and with Mars in Virgo, we pivot through the details.
What I’m sharing with you today is the first issue of the full moon report™️. From here on out, paid subscribers will receive two monthly goodies:
the full moon report in your inbox on the Full Moon — a vibe folder in the style of OG moon missives circa 2016 including watch lists, public figure musings, occasional playlists and whatever personal anecdotes I feel fit to publish
the balsamic moon bulletin in your inbox a few days before the New Moon — processing the lunar cycle that’s just passed and previewing the lunar cycle ahead with prompts curated for each sign
Everyone will still receive a weekly venus day post on Fridays where the content will be less evergreen, focusing more on cultural criticism and personal stories through an astrological lens.
This project is and has always been very mutable and things are always changing, but my fixed placements (and the fixed placements of this newsletter) feel good having a more set schedule. Thanks to all of you have supported it since the beginning (and especially to those of you who have been here since prehistoric times).
OK now that we have that housekeeping out of the way, let’s talk about today’s Full Moon.
Lunar Returns 🌙
This Full Moon falls in the first decan of Aquarius where I have the moon in my birth chart. So yes today is my Lunar return! For those who aren’t familiar, Lunar returns happen once per month (or once per lunar cycle, so every 28 days) when the moon returns to the same sign it was in when you were born. Astro-seek has a handy calculator you can use to figure out your lunar returns here.
As I drove to Red Hook this morning, I started thinking a lot about Lunar returns,
