Greetings bbs!
Happy 2022! Hope you were able to ring in the New Year with loved ones or solo in a soothing way. Astrologically, 2022 is a companion novel to 2021. Many of the same themes that began last year are still playing out, not just now, but throughout this entire year. The areas of life that gave us trouble in 2021 may continue to bother, and might get even messier, or more impossible to ignore. But the good news is that the more positive things are given more space to breathe. If there’s anything to look forward to in 2022, it’s spaciousness. This is something we haven’t felt since 2019 when Jupiter—planet of freedom, expansion and luck—was in Sagittarius. Now, Jupiter is in Pisces, where he not only seeks adventure but refuses to be pinned down. Things could get wild. Things could get diffuse. Things could get confusing. But things are also getting magical and spontaneous. There’s inspiration everywhere if we would only run with it.
That being said, I’m hoping this newsletter takes me to some unexpected divine corners of inspiration this year. You can expect more writing on pop culture and personal experience from me (through the lens of astrology of course, though sometimes with a softer focus), along with the usual horoscopes and musings for each lunation. Writing these missives are a true joy for me. If you’d like to support their creation, subscriptions are $7/month (or $77/year) and include what will become more and more frequent in-depth looks into particular transits, cycles, techniques, and methods of astrological reflection. Now’s also a lovely time to get a reading for the year ahead, you can book with me here.
As far as the nitty-gritty of what’s to come in 2022. I don’t have a mega writeup for you. If you want something more in depth, I suggest checking out this video forecast I did with my friend Whitney Will of Starhearth Astrology going into all the major transits of 2022. That being said, I do have two offerings for you today:
Vibes for 2022 (these should be taken less as predictions or a trend forecast and more as poetic scenarios to set your compass by, i.e. The “prediction” is about Rihanna, but what is that saying about you?)
Because the year begins with a grounding New Moon in Capricorn (exact today, 1/2 at 1:33 pm ET), I thought it would be nice to send out, instead of hard and fast horoscopes, some ideas for New Year’s Resolutions for each sign. The year begins with Venus Retrograde in full swing and Mercury in the shadow of their upcoming retrograde. Plans made now won’t necessarily hit the spot later. That’s OK. What’s not urgent, but simple? What needs tending? These are merely suggestions, informed by astrology. It’s you who’s going to live it.
Vibes for 2022:
- “Indie Sleaze” nostalgia leads many early to middle millennials (1984-1990) to “start” “a” “band” and do some deep shadow work on their hipster years. Related: Zooey Deschanel gets a What Not to Wear-esque TV gig. (long Venus/Mars co-presence in Saturn’s signs)
- Anti-Big Tech coalitions become more pronounced on both federal government and local organizing levels. (ongoing Saturn-Uranus square)
- The media barely covers the anti-Big Tech insurgence as mannnnnyyyyy other things are Rotten in Denmark. (US Pluto Return)
-Foodie wise, there’s a comfort food boom & culturally, we’re less interested in the “chef as brooding artist” persona; less worship of mystery and more hunger for knowing about the chef’s heart and soul; Menus including “notes from the chef” become the norm everywhere from Michelin star spots to upscale diners in the suburbs. (Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio)
-After a winter of live performance cancellations, pop up festivals in April & early May bring healing to the arts community; links between live art & charity are amplified for the better; community sponsorship of artists becomes “a thing.” (Jupiter/Neptune in Pisces)
-One Direction does a one-night only reunion performance and it’s a disaster (which, of course, has little effect on the careers of its members). This sparks a larger conversation about the futility of nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake as we reach peak reboot saturation. (Jupiter in Aries)
-Electric cars are no longer for the luxury class only and become more common; “Elon Musk” has a meltdown after the electric Ford F-150 outperforms a comparable Tesla model in early Q3 and briefly retires before resurfacing in Q4 to announce both the most expensive electric car ever and the most affordable one. People also start refurbishing Prius models from the early 00’s. (Uranus/North Node in Taurus)
-Rihanna announces her official retirement from the music industry to focus on creating VR skincare experiences & philanthropy. Meanwhile, she (not so secretly) starts prepping for a hologram comeback tour in 2024. (Uranus/North Node in Taurus)
- Having a Brand (tm) becomes super tacky in the last third of the year, not being perceived is the vibe. (Jupiter/Neptune in Pisces)
-There is a (potentially brief) mass exodus from Zuckerberg-monitored social media to fledgling sites and many go offline for an extended period; the mantra is “more nourishment, less creeping”; Year-End reflections include lots of lists of “what fed me” in both sweet and disgusting ways. (Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio)
-The mainstream social media exodus leads to a reckoning about how news & info is shared. This is the beginning of labor reforms for writers and journalists. (Mars Retrograde in Gemini)
-The Mantra: Remember: it is important to stay plugged in, not just to the zeitgeist, the truth, or the potential to succeed, but also to yourself. (Mars Retrograde in Gemini)
Resolution suggestions for each sign:

Today’s New Moon in Capricorn brings you pause. It’s in your house of self-undoing and you might be feeling like “what’s the point” but the truth is, there really is so much to look forward to. Attention and repetition are what makes magic.
